"'I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will..'"(257-258).
The word bird brings to mind a flighty little thing that may go at any minute. While a bird that is snared in a net is frighten and is not free to go. Jane in this passage is explaining to Mr. Rochester that she will do as she wishes, and he does not have such a strong hold on her; as to take away her will. I choose this passage because I like the passion I feel from Jane when I read this quote. I can tell she was angry and frustrated that he believed he could make her do something against her will. I can connect to this feeling well, when people try to force me into something I am wholly against. The words that bring this feels to me are "' I am a human being with an independent will.'" throughout the book Charlotte Bronte does a wonderful job of bring the feelings of the charter to the reader.
I find it interesting how much bird imagery is in the book!
