Characterization~ Jane

"I am not deceitful: if I were, I should say i loved you, but I declare I do not love you: I dislike you the worst of anybody in the world except John Reed...(36)"

Jane sternly explains this to her aunt, after the horrible woman told  Jane's new Headmaster that she was deceitful and should be watched. When Jane was young she had a strong passionate spirit. She would hate those who hate her, and was not afraid to share her feelings. When you first start to read the story of Jane Eyre I believe it is her great passion that draws us in. It is this zeal for life that makes us like Jane. As Jane gets older she becomes more patience towards others. I think that horrid school rubbed off on her a bit. Though Jane swore to hate her aunt for the rest of her life, when she was at her aunts death bed she was able to forgive her.

"Love me, then, or hate me as you will," I said at last. "you have my full and free forgiveness: ask now for God's and be at peace"(243).

Jane has grown up and matured, she is not longing declaring her hate. Helen taught her of love and faith, and as Helen was dear to her she took these to heart. Though Jane can still be passionate, it is now more controlled. She is then a dynamic character for she has grown and changed.
